Welcomes Seven New Trustees

The Minneapolis Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of seven new members to its Board of Trustees. Colette Campbell, Thomas Fisher, Dan Moreno, Tom Pack, Lauri Roberts, Rajiv Shah, and Mark Simenstad attended their first board meeting as Trustees today.

The Board of Trustees is composed of three dozen residents of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area who are leaders in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. All the new members have been appointed to four-year terms on the board.

In addition to welcoming these new Trustees, the Board named Trustee Scott Erickson to serve as Treasurer.

Colette Campbell has been on the senior leadership team at Bremer Bank since 2017. In her current role, she serves as Chief Talent Acquisition and Diversity Officer. In this enterprise position, she leads Bremer’s talent acquisition, diversity, equity and inclusion strategy, which includes shaping Bremer’s recruiting processes and incorporating DEI into Bremer Banks overall business. Campbell’s past positions include serving as faculty in business, human resources and human development disciplines. She has provided coaching, training and consulting services for many years through her own consulting business. Campbell holds degrees in religious studies, counseling, management, leadership and human development. She brings both a personal and professional diversity to her position. She was raised in Canada by Jamaican-born parents and has lived and/or taught an almost every continent in the world. Campbell is passionate about creating spaces to help people better understand themselves and others to work better together.

Thomas Fisher, a Professor in the School of Architecture and former Dean of the College of Design, directs the Minnesota Design Center at the University of Minnesota. His most recent book is entitled “Space, Structures and Design in a Post-Pandemic World.”

Dan Moreno was appointed to the Hennepin County bench by Governor Tim Pawlenty in 2006. Having served in Criminal, Family and Civil Divisions, Judge Moreno is currently assigned to the Serious Felony Criminal Block. Prior to his appointment, he was an Assistant Hennepin County Public Defender for 18 years. As the son of Mexican immigrants, Judge Moreno has been an active member of the Latino legal community, serving as an adviser, director, and member of numerous boards and committees for the City of Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota, and other community organizations. He is a founding member of the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association. Judge Moreno is an avid outdoorsman and is currently on the Board of Directors of Wilderness Inquiry, a nonprofit agency that connects disadvantaged youth and the disabled with the outdoors. He is also an active member and leader in the Scouts and Adjunct Professor for Trial Advocacy at the University of St Thomas School of Law. An undergraduate History major, he also serves on the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Department of History, Board of Visitors. Judge Moreno is married and has three children.

Tom Pack is a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, LLP. He focuses his practice on pharmaceutical and medical device products liability matters and complex business litigation, including litigation related to tribal nations. Pack guides clients through the litigation process in both state and federal courts, as well as in mediation and arbitration. He has deep experience litigating cases involving FDA-regulated medical devices and has particular experience with the application of federal preemption to product-liability claims. Pack maintains an active pro bono practice in the civil rights and immigration law fields, with an emphasis on representing asylum seekers fleeing persecution on account of their LGBTQ+ sexual orientations and/or gender identities. Pack is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. Prior to law school, he gained wide-ranging experience relating to rural and American Indian/Alaska Native health as a Truman Fellow and Emerging Leader with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Lauri Roberts is a tax partner in the Twin Cities office of Wipfli and leads the Twin Cities Region tax group. A professional in the tax industry since 1982 with more than 30 years of taxation and wealth management experience, she concentrates on understanding the complex needs of her clients while collaborating with other advisors. Roberts specializes in working with executives, high-net-worth individuals, and family foundations as part of Wipfli’s Private Client Group. She provides personalized services to simplify the financial lives of her clients and works closely with other advisors to preserve and effectively transfer family wealth. Roberts’ clients value her focus on timely tax preparation, thorough tax and estate planning, and family office services. Developing client relationships, communicating planning opportunities effectively, and possessing a strong belief in a team approach are her focus when providing tax services to clients.

Rajiv Shah has been a community volunteer in Minneapolis-Saint Paul for many years and is dedicated to combating racism and ending the cycle of poverty through education, the universal equalizer. In 1994, he co-founded ACES, the first organization in the country to unite all the professional sports teams to educate inner-city kids, and continues to serve on its Board of Directors. He is also a Director of the Minnesota Twins Community Fund and Mission Animal Hospital, one of the first nonprofit veterinary clinics in the country. He received his B.A. from Boston University and his M.D. from the University of Minnesota. He is a specialist in kidney care at InterMed Consultants in Edina, and is the Founder and CEO of MyMeds. Dr. Shah lives in downtown Minneapolis with his wife, Rajni, and their children.

Mark Simenstad recently retired from Thrivent Financial, where he was the Chief Investment Strategist and spent 32 years managing the organization’s multiple investment portfolios. He is currently doing financial writing and consulting through SMPL Strategies, LLC. Simenstad attended St. Olaf College for an undergraduate degree and the University of Minnesota for his MBA. He is married to Deb Bohn, M.D. and has two children, Matt and Stephanie, and three grandchildren. He is also on the St. Olaf College Endowment Investment Committee.
