Types of Planned Gifts

Bequest

Specify in your will or revocable trust. You retain all assets during your lifetime, and the gift will be made upon your death. Your estate will receive an estate tax deduction for your bequest.

Charitable Remainder Trust

Create a Charitable Remainder Trust with $100,000 or more, and receive an immediate tax deduction. Receive income from your gift for life or for a specific number of years, after which your fund receives the remaining assets.

Charitable Gift Annuities

In exchange for a charitable gift of $5,000 or more, you'll receive a fixed stream of income for your lifetime (or the lifetimes of up to two people), backed by the unrestricted assets of The Minneapolis Foundation. Part of the annuity payments may even be tax-free.

Charitable Lead Trust

Provide income to a designated charitable fund for a period of years. Direct the remaining -- often appreciated -- assets to you or your beneficiary(ies) at the end of a specific term. A Charitable Lead Trust allows you to pass assets on to your children or grandchildren with minimum gift and estate tax liability.

Real Estate

Give real estate outright to create a fund or reserve the right to live in your home for as long as you live. If the gift is irrevocable, you may take an immediate charitable deduction for the present value of the remainder interest.

Legacy Funds

Support the causes you care about well beyond your lifetime. Your gifts will be pooled with those of other generous donors to make a greater impact in an area of particular interest to you or your family. The Minneapolis Foundation will steward those gifts to ensure they are continually put to effective use in accordance with the established fund priorities and to meet changing needs.
